Wage Theft Penalties Sharply Increased, Effective Oct. 8

Starting October 8, penalties for employers who withhold wages will rise to up to 5 years in prison or a 50 million KRW fine, and the government's wage-guarantee payment coverage will expand to 6 months of unpaid wages. Foreign workers can file a wage complaint with the Ministry of Employment and Labor regardless of nationality or visa status.
